Jeffro’s “…Top 20 Albums of 2007” Part 3.

From here on, these are the albums I simply can’t stop listening to. I absolutely love Memomena’s track, “Rotten Hell,” especially when I’m pissed off.

The New Pornographers’ latest album is definitely a grower: at first I didn’t think too much of it, but after repeated listens to “Challengers,” “Failsafe,” and “Go Places,” I’ve come to the realization that this is perhaps my favorite New Pornographers album — it’s just a lot more mellow and mature than their previous work.

Recently, I’ve fallen in love with Panda Bear, and if I had listened to it when his album first came out, it would have most likely ended up in the top 5.

Suffice to say, I bought Stars’ newest CD when it first came out, and although it was originally going to be in the top 5, I had a change of heart. I mean, while compiling this Top 20 list, I thought long and hard as to which albums I included. Then, after much introspection, I had to decide which of these albums are: a) repeated listens, 2) have made a profound impact on me, and iii) are just fucking great, cohesive albums and rank them accordingly. None of that looking at Pitchfork or Tiny Mix Tapes to guide my choices… all of these are certifiably Phillip-approved (and one day I’ll patent that approval).

Tim Is 24, I Guess…

It’s my friend Tim’s birthday, so I decided to draw a comic with him in it. There are a lot of inside jokes (engineering stuff, Little Tim’s short stature, etc), so I don’t expect everyone to find this comic drop-on-the-floor-LOL funny.

And don’t think for a second that I’m only drawing comics for friends’ birthdays — I’ll call you ignorant. It may seem that lately I’ve been drawing comics for special events, but COME NEXT MONDAY, I’m starting a new storyline. Furthermore, since I’m all gradu-amated, I’ll be churning out FIVE comics a week. You heard right, deaf-o! FIVE COMICS A WEEK.

…of course, that is until I find a job.

Oakley Cupid.

Now in GIF format! While messing around with the file types, I found out that publishing the comics in GIF format essentially provides the same picture quality at a smaller size.Oakley Cupid is a spoof of Ok Cupid, that quiz/online dating site whom so many MySpacers, LJers, and Xangaists put their quiz results on their blogs. As you can see, I wanted Oakley to be a combination of both Nigel and Randy. Oakley is an angel like Nigel, but his occupation includes sex, passion, and temptation — things Randy would appreciate. Other sources of inspiration include the following:
Molotov Cocktease from “Venture Bros.”
Kurt Russell.
Golobulus from GI Joe: The Movie.

Eye-patches are sexy.

It wasn’t easy trying to draw the machine gun (I even had to do some firearm research in order to get the facts straight), and drawing all those little hearts strained my hand a bit. I’m not asking for pity, but a reasonable amount of money wouldn’t be bad.

My Date with Duder.

Frat boys…!

On a completely unrelated note, I have painted (more like spray painted) some new stuff here. Okay, time to make a pizza. Nite y’all!

Blatant Alcoholism and Homoerotic Desires.

I always say you can’t have a proper storyline without Duder the Stereotypical Frat Boy. The mention of VD Chalmers is a spoof of CO Daniels (my ex-employers at the DI prohibited me from using the official names of real bars), a local Champaign-Urbana bar that caters to idiot freshmen and skanky Greeks.

Oh, and keep watch for site changes; I’m adding a few spiffy graphics to the pages.
