Wear a Coat, Goddammit!

Alright, alright — I’m back in the game for real this time; I already have a few comics inked and uploaded to the server. So what’s the inspiration? Well, for one thing, my friend Tim Eggerding has been EGG-ERDINGING me on to get off my ass and draw some. Also, friend and fellow DI cartoonist, Joe Martin, is planning to make a comic comeback, and like a comic vampire I am revitalized by the art and skills of others.

So yes, in regards to today’s comic, college girls like to go out to bars wearing nothing. Sexy as it may initially appear, watching naive freshmen and sorority girls get pneumonia is kinda funny.

Love is in the Air.

The thrilling conclusion, kinda! More characters, more questions, and more lovesick drama with a mix o’ humour!

I really enjoyed drawing this comic, although inking everything was a bitch — especially when my hand and arm were a little shakey after drinking a lot of caffeine (damn your delicious addictiveness, Full Throttle!). The guns, in particular, were really fun to draw just because drawing firearms asserts my masculine and violent side.

Other small details:

  • The boarded up hole in the guys’ apartment is a result of a giant, toaster-headed robot breaking through the wall.
  • The “Doran” sound in the fourth panel is a tribute to fellow cartoonist, Pat Doran.
  • Both Kyle and reincarnated ZCC are visible in Chris’s photo, indicating that Chris and Lizzy have retained their friendship after “The Rules of Attraction” Storyline (in which Lizzy hardly makes an appearance after its conclusion).
  • There is a Broken Social Scene poster on Chris’s wall. I am seeing them tomorrow, and I am very excited.
  • I just started watching “Veronica Mars.” Damn you Christina and Shane!
  • Though I do want to slowly ease myself out of the usual college humor of my older comics, it’s obvious that all events still take place at my University, U of I.
  • Random, non-linear comics starting Friday (minus Randy of course), so stay tuned!

    Cherub Downe.

Sorry for the delay. A certain coffee-shop manager had my sketchbook, in which she ransomed it for 100 dollars and my formula for eternal life. Next time you see Christina Head, remember the only way to kill her is to chop off her Head (Head, get it?)

So I introduced a new character, Cherub Downe. She’s the young, overly cute and adorable intern of Oakley Cupid who talks with a heavy lisp and wears a Rambo-style headband. She was definitely a fun character to develop, and hopefully you’ll enjoy her as this particular storyline progresses.

Also, this comic marks the reintroduction of Chris and his crew. For those of you who’ve missed the human aspects of the comics, don’t worry; they — under Oakley, Nigel, and Randy’s meddling — all have a major role in the future.

    Hiatus Daze #2.

Some character sketches/lineups of the main characters: Chris, Nigel, Randy, Indie Rawk Jeffro, and Aaron. You may notice that Jeffro has very tight indie pants whilst Aaron has very loose hippy pants.

    All’s Well That Ends Well.

As you can see, unlike Jeffro, Caitlin can take a punch or two. She’s virtually unharmed after this fight!

She’s evil and manipulative, and her intentions remain a mystery to everyone. Heck, even me, her creator!

Caitlin lights up a cigarette and, as Chris and a wounded Jeffro watch, walks towards the morning sun. A fitting ending, I feel, for what has been a really long and interesting story…

    Duck Fucking.

I started this storyline over three years ago; I left the story unfinished midway through the Murphy’s Pub scenes. When I resumed drawing this story arc, I was forced to resort to Chris’s old design: brown-haired and with no hat. In this comic, however, I decided to use Chris’s current design with the hat.

    Goodnight, Goodnight (Just a Dream).

I admit the dialogue was inspired by the last episode of “Cowboy Bebop.”

Indie Rawk Jeffro’s Indie Rawk Blog has been updated, so check it out. And let’s not forget this.

    Every Kiss Begins with *Yurk*!

    Let’s ruin a beautiful moment.

Call it karma for Chris setting Lizzy on fire in the “Frat Party” storyline. And honestly, if this ever happened to you, do tell!

    Watch the Snow Fall.

I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite comics of mine. As opposed to the other comics, this one’s not that funny at all but rather endearing and sincere.

Drawing — or painting, in this case — the snow was a fun and interesting touch to the black negative space, and the minimal dialogue allowed more attention and focus to the actual art. In the last panel, I wanted to convey an environmental change (ie, the wind blowing the snow into a specific direction; pathetic fallacies and all), but I’m not sure if I did it right. Overall, though, I am deeply satisfied with this certain strip.

Now that this particular storyline is nearly complete and I am a busy person (despite my love of watching Cartoon Network for several consecutive hours and logging onto MySpace every 5 minutes), I’m going to reduce the number of new comics from everyday to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I promise you, though, the art and writing will be of the utmost calibre… and in two weeks, the new storyline “Love Is In The Air” will premiere!

Other news: Pat Doran’s “The Way Life Should Be” is back with its final, DI-run comics! And if that’s not cool enough, he officially launched his site! Check out the link!

Other other news: The Wings Gallery show went very well! You can check out some pictures of the night on my Flickr page!

    Resolve.

We’re winding down on the storyline here but more than complicating Chris and Lizzy’s relationship. Heh, who knew I could get serious on this comic?

I’m starting to make Sausage-Fest.com promos, by the way:

    And the show’s tomorrow!
